Hi all, I hope you have all had a good week and have enjoyed the sun over the weekend. Please let me know if you have any issues or if you struggle to understand something, I am always here to help. The office is very busy at the moment so if you are due to collect work, please could you make sure you contact the office before hand to make sure they have everything avaible for you. Maths – Keep practising your times tables! The worksheets for White Rose Maths are no longer on the website, so you can find them attached below. You may still wish to watch the videos so please still follow the link. Year 1 - https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ Year 2 - https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ For this week please start with summer term, week 8, lessons 1-4. Record the answers in your maths book. You don’t necessarily need to write the questions out, unless the adult teaching you wants you to, as it may be easier to mark. The worksheets are fairly simple so I would suggest doing some work practically. This will help with understanding. EXTRA (optional) – I have added mastery sheets for both year 1 and year 2, for those of you who find the work easy and want to push themselves, feel free to have a go. Phonics – please follow the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw/featured?disable_polymer=1 Literacy – This week we are going to be looking at the story ‘Dear Greenpeace’. (All work to be completed in your books, don’t forget capital letters, full stops and finger spaces!) Please watch the Link: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2481447872080102 Day 1 – WALT: write questions. Watch the clip or read the book if you have it. Ask children, what do they notice? i.e. it is similar to Dear Zoo, it has letters in it! Notice that all letters start with Dear, while Emily’s end with Love, and letters from Greenpeace end with Yours sincerely – explain that this is a formal way to end a letter, when you don’t know someone. Note that Emily’s first four letters include questions. Yr1/2 – Ask children what questions they would like answered if they found a whale in their pond. Record these down, noting proper sentence formation, and question marks. Yr1 – 3 or 4 questions Yr2 – 4-6 questions This is an opportunity to work on handwriting so please encourage children to take their time when writing their questions. Make sure question marks are formed correctly and are an appropriate size. Day 2 – WALT: find facts Re-watch or read ‘Dear Greenpeace’. Explain that Greenpeace are people who know a lot about animals and who try to protect and look after them. This is why Emily wrote to them about the blue whale living in her pond. Show children the photo (see resource) of 6 endangered animals and explain that endangered means these animals are at risk or dying out (extinction) and that they must be protected. Discuss with children what they know about them, e.g. what they eat, where they live etc. Imagine it is in their garden! Yr1/2 – Choose one animal they would like to use for their own book. Use the website links to support the plan resource. Discover your own facts finding out what their animal eats, where they live and what it is like as well as anything really interesting you would like to include. Day 3 – WALT: write our own book. Yr1 – Children to write 3 letters, 2 from you and 1 from Greenpeace (See Resource). You can work with an adult or partner. Child writes a letter about their animal, and ask a question and their partner writes a reply from Greenpeace answering. Yr2 – Children should have at least 5 letters inside their book, three from you and two from Greenpeace (see resources for a proposed plan of the book) The letters from you will ask a question and the replies will answer that question i.e. letters that ask for something and letters which tell you something. Choose an animal from yesterday’s lesson and explain that you love this animal very much and think you have one in your garden. Ask a question at the end of your letter. Day 4 – WALT: correct and improve our work Finish work if this wasn’t finished from the day before and check through work. Spend 5-10 minutes checking each area,
Day 5 – WALT: write a thank you letter Yr1/2 – write a thank you letter to Greenpeace for your animal. These are to be written independently to see what you have remembered. Take your time and try to make it as neat as you can. Yr1 – Children write two or three sentences with the conjunction ‘and’, explaining what they are thankful for. Yr2 – Children to write two paragraphs explaining what they are thankful for and give some detail on what your animal has been doing. Try to use a range of conjunctions and sentence starters. At the end of your writing you can draw a picture of your animal if you wish. Science – Local Habitats Please look through the powerpoint and then let children complete the worksheet on Local Habitats. If you would like the worksheet printed, then please either email me or contact the office and we can arrange to have it printed. RE – Judaism, have a look at the powerpoint on Sabbat and learn about why it is important, then let children have a go at the worksheet. If you would like the worksheet printed, please let me or the school know. History – The Great Fire of London, lesson 3 - Go through the powerpoint and learn about ‘The Events of the Great Fire’. Once you have been through the powerpoint let children have a go at the activity sheet and complete the timeline. Let me know if you would like worksheets printed.
