Maths Vision Statement
Our vision in maths is for our children to develop a positive attitude to maths so as to enable them to become fluent mathematicians.
We encourage our children to have a strong understanding of maths through enquiry, reasoning and problem solving.
Children are supported throughout their maths journey to become independent and resilient learners and to develop an ‘I CAN’ attitude.
Maths is progressive and pupils build on prior knowledge.
Maths is taught daily in all classes. The new National Curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils
- Become fluent in calculation
- Reason mathematically
- Solve problems
Children regularly participate in Mathematics workshops with children from neighbouring schools.
Class work is supplemented and reinforced by appropriate homework tasks given weekly from Year 1. The Calculation Policy, on the school website, outlines the methods used in the new curriculum to teach number.
