LETTERS & SOUNDS phonics
As well as TWINKL phonics there are phonics available on the Letters & Sounds site. If you are not sure where your child should start then please e-mail me and I will let you know. Parents' videos are also available on the site to help you. For those children who are learning to blend (beginning to join letter sounds together to make a word) then please follow this link https://wandleenglishhub.org.uk/lettersandsounds/learning-to-blend For those children who are confident in blending (able to join letters together to read the word) then please follow this link. https://www.wandleenglishhub.org.uk/lettersandsounds There are three sets of daily lessons to choose from and we suggest your child starts with one set of lessons most suitable to their year group and reading ability. If you’re not sure which lessons your child should watch or your child finds the lessons too difficult, then your school should be able to recommend which lessons are the most appropriate for your child. From Monday 27 April, a new phonics lesson will be uploaded everyday, Monday to Friday, at the times below during the summer term. *After upload, each lesson will then be available to watch at any time during the summer term. 11 am Learning to blend For children in Reception and Year 1 who need extra practice sounding and reading words such as ‘tap’ ‘cap’ ‘mat’ ‘pat’ 10 am Reception Summer term For children who can confidently blend and read words such as ‘fish’ ‘chat’ and ‘rain’

![]() Good morning – I hope you all had a lovely sunny weekend. E-mail me and let me know what you got up to. I put all Diesel’s toys in the washing machine and pegged them on the line! Bailey escaped under the gate and we found him 30 minutes later at a house nearby! This week Twinkl phonics to start with. This week we are finding out about farmers and what they do. Or make a list of all the animals that you might find on a farm. Wednesday design a farm. Think about where the animals will live. Label their fields. Where will the crops and fruit trees be on your farm? What is the name of the farm? Thursday last week you may have planted a potato as part of the maths and the story Supertato. Think about the journey of potatoes from when they first get planted to when they get to your home. (e.g. Field – tractor - ……………………………….. shop – kitchen). Plant a sprouting potato! So first you will need to pick a potato that is sprouting – Have a look in your veggie rack. Plant your potato where you choose in a big pot or in the garden. If you don’t have soil you can still watch the potato grow by putting it in a jam jar. Mark off the days on your 100 square day by day. When you get to 100 see how many potatoes you have! There is one on the next slide for you. Also did you know if you cut the top off a carrot and put it in a saucer of water you can make its shoots grow – looks a little like its growing hair! Have a lovely weekend! Let me know what you get up to. Another sunny day!
We went for a lovely walk yesterday in the evening then a barbeque. What have you been up to after 'school'? ................................................................... Phonics as usual this morning please. Then can you draw the police car that you saw in the Gecko video (link below in Tuesday's post). Write a story about the police car? Where are the police going? White rose maths as usual - summer term, week 1, day 4 https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/early-years/Day-4-Supertato.pdf Talking Together Grown ups please help your child to cut potatoes in half. (Remember you can use up the sprouty ones for this!) If you can, pick potatoes of different sizes so you can talk about large and small designs. If using other veg talk about what size and shape you think that might make e.g. a carrot, a circle – a big circle at the top and a little one if we use the bottom. Find some colours of paint and some paper to print on. Get printing, talking about position (first second, third, next to, last, between, before, after...), printing in groups ( groups of 2's, 5,s, a group of 10) use of colour, shape and how much space between your prints. Also a lovely link to our Kandinsky circles work at the beginning of the week - they could make another painting or collage in the style of Kandinsky - a small apple on top of a large orange? A fruit salad painting? Enjoy! If you don't have any paint then your child can draw around and cut out their fruit - e.g. orange circles. apple circles, carrot triangles etc. They can colour it in. Please make small and large fruit. When you have made your fruit then please make patterns and talk about what you see. .....................................................................................................
