We are a Thrive School

At St Margaret's we are committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing and development of every child. We believe that happy, secure children are ready to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential. To help us do this, we use the Thrive Approach across our school.
What is the Thrive Approach?
The Thrive Approach is a whole-school, evidence-based way of supporting children’s social and emotional development. It helps staff to understand the needs that drive a child’s behaviour and to respond in ways that support their emotional growth.
Through Thrive, we focus on helping children feel safe, valued, and able to form positive relationships. This creates the foundation for effective learning and long-term wellbeing.
How does Thrive work in our school?
Using the Thrive Approach, staff are trained to observe and identify the emotional needs behind a child’s behaviour. This helps us to provide the right support at the right time. We use Thrive Assessments to help plan individual or group support programmes, ensuring that each child receives what they need to feel secure and ready to learn. Activities might include play, art, relaxation, storytelling, or simple strategies for managing emotions.
Thrive is not just about supporting individual children, it shapes our whole-school ethos. Every classroom and playground interaction is seen as an opportunity to build connection, resilience, and self-belief.
Our trained Thrive Practitioners work closely with teachers, support staff, and families to create consistent approaches both in school and at home. By working together, we can help children develop confidence, empathy, and the skills they need to manage life’s ups and downs.
Through the Thrive Approach, we aim to nurture emotionally resilient, self-aware, and compassionate learners who are ready to flourish both academically and personally.
