The Lord's Larder
We had a visit from Mr Callagher who works with the Lord's Larder in Yeovil. As a class we have decided to support them. Watch out for more information being sent home soon.
Story writing time
We are once again entering the Montacute writing Competition. We have spent the last week of half term writing our stories, editing them and typing them using Google Docs. Some of us have managed stories of 2000 words!!
On Thursday 16th January 3 lucky children went to a writers day. Here is what they had to say about it:
"It was fun and it has given us more confidence with writing. We got to meet an author named Kathryn Evans, who has written 2 books; 'Beauty sleep' and 'More of me'. The books aren't suitable for us yet, but we will be able to read them in Year 7.
We made our own silly story. There was one about a boy named Jeff, who had a rabbit that liked apples, bananas, cabbages and sweetcorn. The other one was a boy named Bob Richards, who was half dead for some reason.
We each had to write a story about a rabbit or a shell. But it wasn't that simple as we had to think about the setting and the characters.
We have a new Prime Minister
After weeks of planning, discussing issues and campaigning, Orchard Class held their vote for their new Pupil Prime Minister - electing Beau.
As part of the Pupil Prime Minister project we have learnt about how laws are passed, what the different sections within Parliament are called, as well as key vocabulary such as 'constituents'.
Next term we will be busy working on the issues that got our Prime Minister elected to see whether any of them will become 'law'!
Below all our Party Leaders are casting their votes, as well as one of the class showing just how hard a decision it was!
On Tuesday 19th November, Sarah from Newswise came to teach us all about identifying fake news. We took on roles as editors, reporters and sub-editors and created a news broadcast.
We will attending 'Journalism School' over the next couple of week.
